Tom Van Puyvelde (°1985, Belgium), graduated as Master of Architecture at Sint-Lucas, Ghent and thereafter as Master of Fine Arts at the School of Arts, Ghent. At the painting department of the School of Arts he got in touch with the medium of painting and its different approaches. Experimenting with source images and exploring different styles and techniques, he starts to develop a layered and authentic artist vision of his own. Van Puyvelde graduated as Master under the supervision of international curator and museum director Jan Debbaut, developing a series of monochrome over-painted photo prints, which represent a study of color and the symbiosis between painting and digital media. After graduating, he started as assistant of renowned Belgian painter Koen van den Broek. This encounter inspired Van Puyvelde in his own work and gave him an exclusive insight in the contemporary art world. Today, he divides his time working on a multitude of different art installations and integrations. The core theme in Van Puyvelde's work is colour - he relishes the nonlinear process of mixing and creating new colours. Using photographs as inspiration, each colour is utterly unique, crafted to be as close to nature as possible.
